EFT -- Tapping the Shame Point

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is such a powerful technique, that I try to spread the word on it. It's such a simple technique and nobody deserves to be enslaved by their negative emotions. However, I am often met with some sort of resistance. Many people find it unbelievable that lightly tapping on a few points on the body while tuning into a highly charged memory/feeling can balance and eliminate that negative feeling. Those who would be theoretically open to it are reluctant because they are self conscious about "looking silly" as they say phrases and tap on various points.

The founder of EFT, Gary Craig, encourages experimentation with EFT and variations, so I tried a variation last night that I'd like to share.

Last night, a friend of mine, Collin, had to give bad news to his father. He had borrowed his father's car to come visit me and parked in front of my house. While we were catching up and chatting, an elderly gentleman drove by, and because of a medical condition, blacked out, veered off the road and collided with Collin's father's car. The elderly driver flipped his own car and totaled both cars.

We were all grateful that there were no pedestrians around at that time, and nobody seemed seriously injured from the collision.

While Collin intellectually knew that this was really nobody's fault, he dreaded telling his father what happened. I noticed that he seemed anxious, guilty, ashamed, and embarrassed. After looping with these negative feelings for about 15 minutes, I had Collin tap on what's known as the chin point in EFT which is located in the divot between the lower lip and the chin. This area is associated with the Central Meridian and helps to release feelings of shame.

We did not tap on any other points, we did not come up with a phrase, and we did not correct for the possibility of psychological reversal as is usually required in the EFT protocol. I'm happy to report that simply tapping on the chin point immediately calmed him down. This was Collin's first experience with how powerful EFT can be, and he was stunned who quickly it worked.

Some people become suspicious at how quickly these feelings are released with EFT. Many people believe that negative feelings are somehow virtuous or necessary or that EFT causes people to somehow be in denial about their feelings. Some also believe that without guilt or shame, they would have no moral compass.

EFT only works on the irrational aspects of a belief, and in the case of Collin, feeling guilty because somebody else had a medical condition and collided with his father's car was certainly irrational. EFT corrected for the irrational feelings while still allowing Collin to have clarity over the reality of the situation.

A truly holistic system

BodyTalk is a truly holistic system in that it integrates principles of Western and Eastern medicine including anatomical and physiological knowledge, advanced yoga, acupuncture and chiropractic philosophy, and quantum physics.

The BodyTalk pracittioner balances the body by looking at the underlying causes of illness, disease, and injury. Causes can be physical (injury, toxins, pollution), emotional, mental (stress), etc. Sometimes the underlying cause is psychological as can be the case with past trauma. One advantage of BodyTalk's method of clearing emotional trauma is that it's not necessary for clients to relive a trauma by talking about it at lengths as might be required by some other modalities.

What is BodyTalk? Longer post

BodyTalk is an integrative form of consciousness-based energy medicine. BodyTalk relies on the principle that the body has an innate wisdom and ability to heal itself and that everything is connected to everything. A practitioner listens to what the body considers to be a priority using muscle testing/neuromuscular biofeedback. If the client’s body reveals that there is a disconnected link between, say the brain and the kidneys, the link can be restored between the two. This synchronization that is re-established allows the body to heal itself. The practitioner doesn’t heal the client; the body heals itself.

BodyTalk restores the links by looking at the underlying causes of the disconnected links through an established protocol. These causes can be physical (injury, toxins, pollution), emotional, mental (stress), etc. If the underlying cause is a past trauma, these links can also be restored. BodyTalk is not psychotherapy so it is not necessary to relive any trauma by talking about it in a session. BodyTalk is a truly holistic modality in that it integrates principles of Western and Eastern medicine including anatomical and physiological knowledge, advanced yoga, acupuncture and chiropractic philosophy, and quantum physics.

BodyTalk has had good results with a variety of conditions including but not limited to the following:
• Chronic pain
• Back pain
• Arthritis
• Headaches
• Allergies
• Infections
• Stress
• Viruses
• Chronic fatigue
• Phobias
• Digestive disorders
• Endocrine disorders
• Emotional disorders
• Learning disorders

EFT -- Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT is a technique used to clear emotionally charged memories. It is a very powerful way to release emotions that have become stuck in the body.

One major advantage of EFT is that it can easily be done on yourself. This is my favorite video for getting the gist of the technique: http://youtu.be/aQp0kA5a5OI

What is BodyTalk? Short Answer

BodyTalk is a form of complementary medicine that is based on consciousness and energy. The quick idea is that the body is a complex, synchronized, and holistic system in which every part is in constant communication with every other part. Through stresses, communication breakdowns and disconnections can occur which then manifest as illness or injury.

An underlying philosophical theme of BodyTalk (and many other health modalities) is that the body has an innate ability and wisdom to heal itself.

The BodyTalk pracititioner taps into the wisdom of the body to see where communication links can be re-connected and harmonized. Restoring these communication links is the mechanism through which health is optimized by using the BodyTalk system.
